Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Matthew graduated with honors from the Pratt Institute of Art in Brooklyn, New York, in 2000. He is a Signature Member of numerous organizations, including the American Watercolor Society and National Watercolor Society, where he served as vice president. His award-winning watercolor paintings have been exhibited in juried shows across the United States, as well as in Canada, China, England, Greece, Hong Kong, and Italy. His work is in museum and private collections. Matthew has been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine as one of “Today’s Masters” (Dec. 2020, Feb. & April 2019, Feb. & Oct. 2018), American Art Collector Magazine (Issue 158, 171), Watercolor Magazine as “One To Watch” (Dec. 2017), The Artist’s Magazine (July/August 2017), The Art Of Watercolour Magazine (Issue 32), and in the Splash “best of watercolor” book series. New Century International Watercolor Curator. Once a watercolor lecturer in the Department of Business Design at the American Cultural University. Has been invited to Taiwan, France, Poland, USA, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Spain, Mexico, Greece, Russian Federation, Moscow, and China, nearly 70 international exhibitions, 76 solo exhibitions, and nearly 300 joint exhibitions at home and abroad.  2012 Indonesia International Watercolor Tour Invitational Exhibition (Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Sony Bali.) Received the 2012 China Nanjing International Watercolor Painting Outstanding Artist Gold Medal.

Herman Pekel

Born in Melbourne in 1956 of Dutch parents, Herman was 17 when he held his first solo exhibition in Melbourne: it was a sell-out success. He spent three years studying and painting in Amsterdam and London, where he encountered the works of Constable, Turner and Rembrandt. These impressed him and influenced his own work. On returning to Melbourne in 1982 he began studying for his fine arts degree at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Dale Hickey, Jeff Makin and Clifton Pugh are just a few of the contemporary artists under whom Herman studied and who were instrumental in cultivating his appreciation of contemporary art, as well as experimentation with abstract impressionism. His tonal works, in oil and watercolour, range from city and landscapes to café and bar interiors to dynamic industrial scenery. They all demonstrate the very best of contemporary impressionism.
