Lana Privitera AWS, NWS

Originally from Spain, Lana Privitera graduated in 1983 from the Fine Arts School of Zaragoza, where she majored in Fashion Design and Art History. After working in Advertising for a few years, she moved to the USA in the early 1990s.

Lana has been painting watercolors for over 20 years and her Realistic Still Lifes have gathered a long list of top awards both in National and International competitions. 

Her work is often seen featured in prestigious publications both in the USA and abroad: “Artists Magazine,” “Watercolor Artists”, “Plein Air”, “L’art de L’Acquarelle”, “Pratique des Arts”, and UK’s “Arts & Illustrators”,. Her paintings have also being selected for publication in several editions of SPLASH: the best of watercolor.

She is a Signature Member of many leading Art Societies in the USA, including the AWS, the NWS and the TWSA.

Mrs. Privitera is a sought after instructor, both online and in-person, and performs often as Juror of Selection and Juror of Awards for renown art societies. Most recently Mrs Privitera was Juror of Awards of the 2025 AWS International Exhibition.

MATTHEW BIRD AWS, NWS

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Matthew graduated with honors from the Pratt Institute of Art in Brooklyn, New York, in 2000. He is a Signature Member of numerous organizations, including the American Watercolor Society and National Watercolor Society, where he served as vice president. His award-winning watercolor paintings have been exhibited in juried shows across the United States, as well as in Canada, China, England, Greece, Hong Kong, and Italy. His work is in museum and private collections. Herman Pekel

Born in Melbourne in 1956 of Dutch parents, Herman was 17 when he held his first solo exhibition in Melbourne: it was a sell-out success. He spent three years studying and painting in Amsterdam and London, where he encountered the works of Constable, Turner and Rembrandt. These impressed him and influenced his own work. On returning to Melbourne in 1982 he began studying for his fine arts degree at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Dale Hickey, Jeff Makin and Clifton Pugh are just a few of the contemporary artists under whom Herman studied and who were instrumental in cultivating his appreciation of contemporary art, as well as experimentation with abstract impressionism.
