Anne McCartney AWS, NWS
Anne is a Canadian watercolor artist currently living in British Columbia.
With encouragement from those around me, she began painting seriously in 2005. Since then she has created a substantial body of work: many of these pieces are part of a collection in homes and corporations around the world. She has exhibited in many international exhibitions and been awarded for her efforts.
After graduating from an interior design program from University of Manitoba, Canada she worked briefly as a graphic artist before she taught herself about watercolor. She has had the help of many workshops, mentors and has read many excellent resources.
She is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolors, National Watercolor Society, San Diego Watercolor Society and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America. Anne has many affiliations with societies in both America and Canada.
Her inspirations come while traveling around the world or from the people and landscapes close to her home. She captures special moments with her camera and upon being reminded of what caught her eye at the time - the light, an architectural detail, or the posture or expression of a person – she recreates them in her studio.
Her intent as a painter is to show something to her viewers in a way they have not seen before. To share her vison of the world and the people in it.
She wants people to like her work but more importantly she wants viewers to want to spend time with her work. To look at it more closely to contemplate the narrative of it. To get to know the people they see on the page or to travel to the place she has painted.
