"My home is in a small village in the north of Sweden. In recent years, many of my paintings have been filled by my euphoria for the powerful magic Icelandic landscape. Memories from some trips around Iceland have resulted in several quite big watercolors and also of cause smaller ones, in where I tried to capture my feelings for some characteristics of the Icelandic landscape. I was for example very sad to see how fast the glacier ice of Vatnajökull melts at Jökulsárlón, so that impression made me working with melting glaciers in several of my paintings.
The glaciers with shapes and colors are also interesting to me in an image-creating perspective. The patterns in the ice formations that are formed when the light surface is marbled by cracks' turquoise tones and graphic stripes of volcanic ash are fantastic to work with in watercolor. The harmony that can arise in the relationship between light, color and shape in the landscape and the colors of the ice when meltwater flows.
The watercolor technique gives a light and an airiness that I like. The material is a difficult-to-master medium, where each brushstroke requires full attention and quick decisions. The technology involves working with different pigments, their properties and encounters with different amounts of water, which requires good knowledge of both technology and materials. For me, painting is an experiment in which I, my material and motif interact. I strive to develop my ability to paint with boldness and fluency, so that the painting does not become plotted by too many details and too much clarity."
