Alvaro Castagnet AWS

Alvaro Castagnet is a master watercolour artist Internationally renowned and well-traveled, he is lauded for his personal expressive style and ability to capture the soul of the subjects he paints. 

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, he is a distinguished member of prestigious watercolour societies worldwide. Alvaro’s works have been recognized with top honors in esteemed international art competitions.  He is the author of several art books , videos and publications. 

Alvaro Castagnet is fluent in Spanish, Italian, and English and currently lives in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Castagnet has been holding solo exhibitions since 1985, and has been recognised with dozens of awards over the last 30 years.

He is the author of the out-of-print, “Watercolor Painting with Passion” , “Painting with Passion – Beyond Technique” & “Watercolour Masterclass” books. 

Alvaro is featured in innumerable art books, videos, DVDs and acclaimed international art publications.His main studio is located in Montevideo, Uruguay. He lives with his wife, Ana Maria. He travels around the world, painting, demonstrating, lecturing, judging art competitions and attending exhibitions of his work.

Herman Pekel

Born in Melbourne in 1956 of Dutch parents, Herman was 17 when he held his first solo exhibition in Melbourne: it was a sell-out success. He spent three years studying and painting in Amsterdam and London, where he encountered the works of Constable, Turner and Rembrandt. These impressed him and influenced his own work. On returning to Melbourne in 1982 he began studying for his fine arts degree at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Dale Hickey, Jeff Makin and Clifton Pugh are just a few of the contemporary artists under whom Herman studied and who were instrumental in cultivating his appreciation of contemporary art, as well as experimentation with abstract impressionism. His tonal works, in oil and watercolour, range from city and landscapes to café and bar interiors to dynamic industrial scenery. They all demonstrate the very best of contemporary impressionism. MATTHEW BIRD AWS, NWS

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Matthew graduated with honors from the Pratt Institute of Art in Brooklyn, New York, in 2000. He is a Signature Member of numerous organizations, including the American Watercolor Society and National Watercolor Society, where he served as vice president. His award-winning watercolor paintings have been exhibited in juried shows across the United States, as well as in Canada, China, England, Greece, Hong Kong, and Italy. His work is in museum and private collections.
